The Final Warning Initiative: When Fashion Becomes a Global Wake-Up Call
By Kal Kalim, Creative Director, UNMODA
Sometimes, fashion must be more than fashion.
That belief became the heartbeat of The Final Warning Initiative, a powerful collaboration between UNMODA and Miss Global—a moment where we chose to speak to the world, not through words, but through stripes, stitches, and sixty-two women standing shoulder to shoulder for the planet.
We have all seen the numbers. We have heard the warnings. But data alone isn’t enough anymore. People need to feel something. They need to see it, wear it, and be it.
That is where the Climate Stripes come in.
Originally created by climate scientist Ed Hawkins, the Climate Stripes are a series of colored bands, each representing a year of global temperature data. The darker blues reflect cooler years, while the reds mark the rise in temperatures. It is a quiet graphic with a loud message: We are running out of time.
So, we transformed those stripes into something wearable—something unignorable. The Final Warning Bikinis were born. Each piece was designed to carry this timeline of climate change on the body, so the story of our warming planet could be told not just in classrooms or science papers, but on beaches, runways and Instagram feeds.
At Miss Global 2025, we turned this vision into a movement.
In a landmark moment, 62 contestants from 62 nations came together to form a human chain. Each woman wore a Final Warning Bikini and stood in the Climate Stripes formation—side by side, color by color—bringing the temperature timeline to life. It wasn’t a performance. It wasn’t a gimmick. It was solidarity in motion.
It was a final warning—made visible.
As the designer and Creative Director behind this initiative, it was important for me to ensure this wasn’t just a fashion statement. It was activism stitched with responsibility. Every piece was sustainably made. Every color chosen with intent. Every model part of something bigger than themselves.
And for UNMODA, it marked yet another milestone in our journey.
We are proud to be the world’s first Progressive Luxury Streetwear Label—and India’s first streetwear label dedicated to women. We made our debut at Times Fashion Week with The ALL INXCLUSIVE Collection on December 7, 2024. Just weeks later, we pulled off the world’s first Flash Runway in the heart of Shanghai, reminding the world that fashion is an experience, not just a product.
But The Final Warning Initiative was something else entirely. It was proof that fashion, when aligned with purpose, can create cultural moments that matter.
And we’re not done yet.
In April 2025, we’re set to launch our first Climate Stripes-inspired Streetwear Collection—continuing the message of urgent awareness, but this time in hoodies, tees and everyday essentials that carry weight beyond trends.
Because this isn’t about a bikini.
This isn’t about a collection.
This is a call to action.
To all the creators, changemakers and conscious consumers out there: join us. Let fashion be your protest. Let it be your message. Let it be your movement.
